3 Gaming moments I loved this year.
John Marston’s ride into Mexico. By a long way, the Red Dead Redemption’s first Mexico sequence, accompanied by Jose Gonzales’ Far Away, was the best video gaming moment of the year, possibly of the current generation. I would literally play this whole game again to experience this sequence one more time. It’s among a collection of moments in the game that we’ll come...

3 great TV shows you might not have seen this...
Louie Louis CK’s second crack at a ‘sitcom’ is not even really a sitcom. It’s not even a traditional ‘show’. It might be easy to say that Louis CK just tapes dramatisations of his standup routines, but it’s more than that. It’s real “Did he just say that?” television. The Trip Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon play weird fictionalised...

3 TV Shows I haven't watched this year.
This is my pile of TV shame. Don’t ask me why, but I’ve only watched the pilots of each of these: Boardwalk Empire Justified Breaking Bad Fucked up right? Gotta save something for a rainy day. A rainier day then.

“This set and these films exist largely because of your enthusiasm and support...”
– Ridley Scott (from the Alien Anthology Blu-ray set) It’s heartening to know that Scott considers himself to be the keeper of the flame after all these years. Also, NOTE THE SIZZLE.

3 new podcasts I loved this year.
Hollywood Babble-on (with Kevin Smith and Ralph Garman) If I have to pick one Smodcast network show, it’s this. Essentially a Hollywood gossip show in which Kevin displays very little knowledge about Hollywood gossip and which Ralph displays an incredible hatred for Chelsea Handler. But really, anything from the Smodcast Network is worth subscribing to: Smodcast itself, Jay and Silent Bob...

Wired: Placebos Are Getting More Effective.... →
From 2001 to 2006, the percentage of new products cut from development after Phase II clinical trials, when drugs are first tested against placebo, rose by 20 percent. The failure rate in more extensive Phase III trials increased by 11 percent, mainly due to surprisingly poor showings against placebo. Despite historic levels of industry investment in R&D, the US Food and Drug Administration...

ARN: Power Balance slammed by ACCC for misleading... →
This is very disappointing. Power Balance wristbands are a remarkable dickhead detector. All users who purchased the wristbands can now get a refund if they feel they’ve been misled. I think this would be an excellent opportunity for a certain couple of 6:30pm ambulance chasing infomercial delivery mechanisms to get some new fans. Imagine footage of following some bogan into Rebel Sport...

E-Mail Use Falls as Young Chat and Text -... →
The problem with e-mail, young people say, is that it involves a boringly long process of signing into an account, typing out a subject line and then sending a message that might not be received or answered for hours. And sign-offs like “sincerely” — seriously? Yeah? Well young people are idiots. Seriously. Get a job. Punks.
