Calacanis’ Tablet specs, a summary.

I’m going to put these all together because it’ll make it easy to do one of two things: Call Jason a bullshit artist, or laugh in the face of Scoble and his acolytes (he’s acting like a pundit who is mad he didn’t get a beta unit).

I’m giving Jason the benefit of the doubt because I really like the dude and as a respected entrepreneur, I think it’d be kind of stupid for him to pull this kind of prank. Here’s what he thinks we’ll find out in a few hours:

Prices (USD): $599, $699 and $799 depending on size of the tablet and storage.
OLED screen.
Verizon AND AT&T (which means GSM and CDMA). Wifi.
HDTV Tuner and PVR functionality.
Wireless connection for Keyboard + Monitor (HDTV)
It runs a new version of the iPhone OS that does multitasking (specific example, Pandora running along side the browser)
Has an “e-book reader mode” to conserve battery which is otherwise about 2-3 hours at full tilt.
2 cameras, front and back - “Augmented Video Conferencing”
It has ‘thumbpads’ for mouse gestures as well as thumbprinting for security.
It has a solar panel on the back to charge, but Jason says it’s a bit of a gimmick.
NY Times and Vanity Fair subscriptions
The games (specifically mentioned Chess and Farmville) have controls that are a “Wii-level innovation”. Farmville is a ‘game changer’ and Mark Pincus (founder of Zynga) will be on stage with Steve.
Jason has had the Tablet for 10 days and has been asked by Apple to do press in the MSM (CNN, CNBC etc)
He stops at photos or the name of the device.
And finally: “Off to bed, but I assure you I’m not joking and the specs are real…. Most of all that this is best gadget ever made and NOT overhyped.”

I twittered before, if this is all true, I’ll be in the market for a $700-800AUD version to go with the Macbook Pro I’ll be buying as soon as there is an update. Simply being able to pump my ‘couch laptop’ screen to my TV is a killer app. Although, could this be added to the Macbook Pro? Probably :)

Update: He got the WSJ to blog his claims. I guess that was the prank!
